The Family Is the Patient
Family therapy operates on a simple but powerful idea: the family is a system. Patterns repeat. One person's struggle reverberates through everyone. And the most effective place to make change is often in the patterns themselves — not just in any one member.
What We Help Families With
- Parent-child conflict
- Behavioral or emotional concerns in a child or teen
- Blended-family adjustment
- Communication breakdowns across generations
- Supporting a family member through addiction, mental illness, or transition
- LGBTQ+ inclusion and acceptance work
- Grief and loss
How Sessions Work
Family sessions usually include the family members most relevant to the concern. Sometimes that's everyone in the household; sometimes it's a parent and a teen, or two siblings. We may also recommend brief individual sessions woven in. The work is collaborative and active — not just talking, but practicing new patterns in the room.
For LGBTQ+ Family Dynamics
We frequently support families navigating a child's coming out, gender transition, or relationship with a same-sex partner. Our approach is affirming for the LGBTQ+ family member while also creating space for parents and siblings to process their own experience honestly. Both can be true.
